President Droupadi Murmu to Deliver Independence Day Eve Address at 7 PM Today - President Droupadi Murmu is set to deliver her annual Independence Day Eve address on August 14, 2024, at 7 PM. The speech will be broadcast live across various platforms, including government social media accounts and television channels.

The Rashtrapati Bhavan announced that the President’s address will be aired at 7 PM on Akashvani’s national network and on all Doordarshan channels. The speech will be presented first in Hindi and then in English. Regional language versions will follow at 9:30 PM on Akashvani’s regional networks.

This year's Independence Day theme is ‘Viksit Bharat’, reflecting the government's goal to transform India into a developed nation by 2047. To celebrate the 78th Independence Day, the central government has launched the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, encouraging citizens to display the national flag at their homes.

On August 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the flag hoisting ceremony at the Red Fort in Delhi, followed by the Independence Day parade. PM Modi will also address the nation to kick off the Independence Day celebrations.

In her address last year, President Murmu highlighted government achievements, the strong GDP growth, and the resilience of the Indian economy.

Each year, Independence Day is marked by flag-hoisting ceremonies nationwide. Citizens join in singing the national anthem and take part in various drills and cultural events. Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's flag-raising ceremony at the Red Fort in Old Delhi, a parade featuring police and military personnel takes place. Many people also fly kites as a symbol of freedom. During his speech, the Prime Minister reflects on India's significant achievements over the past year, addresses upcoming challenges, and outlines goals for a brighter future.
