Presidential poll: 140 MLAs to cast votes in Kerala Assembly

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : The Assembly of Kerala government on Monday will join the process of electing the new president of India.

There are 140 members of the Kerala Assembly, and it is inevitable that all 140 of them, (including the 99 lawmakers from the Left Democratic Front, which is led by the CPI-M, and the 41 from the UDF, which is led by the Congres),  will support the joint opposition candidate Yaswanth Sinha, who recently came to the state to campaign.

From 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., the vote will take place on the third floor of the Assembly.

Two additional voters will cast their ballots in the Assembly polling place in addition to the 140 legislators. Neel Ratan Singh Patel, a member of the Apna Dal who represents the Sevapuri Assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh, would vote for Draupadi Murmu, the NDA candidate, because he is receiving ayurvedic therapy.

S. Gnanathiraviam, a Thirunelveli DMK Lok Sabha member, is the other visitor. He is currently Covid positive and will vote here at about  5 p.m. as the last participant.

While the other two ballots will be placed in separate boxes, the Kerala votes will be placed in one box.
