Priyanka Gandhi to address women's convention in Bangalore

BANGALORE: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will reach Bangalore and address the party's mega women's conclave at the Palace Grounds today, January 16.

To welcome Priyanka Gandhi, the party has erected huge and tall cutouts and banners all around Bangalore. The leaders are expecting that this conference for women, called "Na Nayaki (I am the leader)," will give them some impetus.

Participating in the conference will be more than a lakh women from every gram panchayat in the state. The Congress Women's Wing is in charge of organising the event.

AICC President Mallikarjuna Kharge, D.K. Shivakumar, Opposition leader Siddaramaiah, and Women's Wing President Puspa Amarnath are among chief dignitaries. Sonia Gandhi, a former president of the AICC, boycotted the Ballary convention in favour of joining Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra in the state.

The Karnataka Congress seeks to oppose the BJP's widely-publicized campaign that features both the government and party programmes, as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. PM Modi has already visited one event this month and is scheduled to participate in two more.

Prior to the Assembly elections, which are set to take place in fewer than 80 days, the state is seeing frenzied political activity. BJP, the ruling party, has already started its campaign by announcing several well-liked programmes.
