Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh, the country's largest state, is going to go to the polls in a few days. The nomination process for the first phase of elections has been completed. Surprisingly, the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) election campaign has not yet started. Congress national general secretary and UP in-charge Priyanka Gandhi has also expressed surprise over this. Talking about BSP supremo and former CM Mayawati's non-entry into the electoral riots, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has said, "I am very surprised at Mayawati's non-launch of the election campaign". She further said, "Till six or seven months ago, we thought her party was not active. We thought she might be waiting for the election. But now we are also very surprised that the election has begun. We are in the middle of the election and Mayawati is still not active. She has kept quiet. It's beyond my comprehension.' BSP supremo Mayawati has not been active in the state's politics after she suffered a crushing defeat in the 2017 assembly elections. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he parted ways with his ideology and formed an alliance with Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party (SP). However, she could not turn Dalit voters in favour of the Samajwadi Party. Since then, his political activism has been seen to be very low. She doesn't seem to be active about this time's assembly elections 2022.
