Those who vandalised Mahatma Gandhi's statue are cowards: Priyanka Gandhi on Jalaun incident

Lucknow: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Vadra has targeted those who vandalized the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Priyanka tweeted that"A few days ago the statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar was vandalised by anti-social elements in Uttar Pradesh. Now the statue of Mahatma Gandhi has been broken in Jalaun. The cowards who vandalise statues have only this achievement in their life that they tried to insult the great people hiding in the darkness of the night. You cannot diminish the greatness of these great men by attacking their statues."

It is noteworthy that the statue of Gandhi above the gate of Gandhi Inter College located on Station Road of the city in Jalaun has been broken. In the morning, when the school watchman noticed that the statue surrounded by jaalis on three sides was beheaded, he informed the Principal about the incident. The Principal informed the police and administration officials about the incident.

After the news of Mahatma Gandhi's statue being disseminated, activists of several political parties have staged a sit-in demanding fresh installation of Mahatma Gandhi's statue and strict legal action against mischievous elements. The protesters have demanded that the accused be arrested and sent behind bars. Superintendent of Police Awadhesh Singh said that an FIR would be registered and strict action would be taken against the accused.
