'Punish BJP..', Sanyukta Kisan Morcha's appeal on polling day in UP

Lucknow:  In a press release issued by the Sanyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), which is the spearhead of the farmers' movement, the All India Kisan Mazdoor Sabha, AIKMS, has criticised the BJP's plan to promote zero budget natural farming. The morcha said that this is a conspiracy to increase the prices of fertilizers and eliminate fertilizer subsidies. It will devastate the small and medium farmers. Their crop yield and returns will be reduced by more than 30%.

AIKMS has called upon all farmers to punish the BJP for increasing the input burden and reducing farmers' income. AIKMS said as announced in the budget and in the election campaign by the BJP, there are plans to allow only organic farming up to 5 km on both sides of the 2500 km on the banks of the Ganga. It is meant to promote bio-fertilizers, which are expensive and are less effective on seeds of the high yield variety.

He said the scheme will be implemented by the police and will destroy crores of farmers of the Ganga belt. Already the cost of fertilizer has doubled and farmers have suffered a lot of black marketing. This year's budget allocation for fertilizer subsidy is Rs 1.05 lakh crore as against Rs 1.55 lakh crore spent last year. The government is promoting ZBNF to reduce its support to farmers.
