Amritsar: At 11 a.m. on Saturday, two unknown gunmen shot and killed a contractor work on road construction on the Jalandhar-Kapurthala Road in Punjab's Kapurthala city. The two defendants then escaped in his bolero. The district police have issued an alert across Punjab as a result of the incident, and SSP Kapurthala Harkamalpreet Singh and his team have arrived at the scene to investigate. Balwinder Singh, 30, of village Kot Dharam Singh Khurd in Tarantaran, was working with his labour near village Ibban on Jalandhar Road about 11 a.m. on Saturday, according to sources. Suddenly, two armed miscreants rushed his car and opened fire on him as soon as he arrived. The neighbouring employees hurried to Balwinder Singh after hearing gunshots, but the robbers had already escaped with Balwinder's bolero. Balwinder Singh was transported to a public hospital in Kapurthala by his teammates, but he died as a result of his injuries. SSP Kapurthala Harkamalpreet Singh and other officers rushed to the scene after obtaining information about the occurrence and began investigating the issue. The deceased's body was retained at the hospital for a postmortem examination. According to DSP-D Amrit Swarup, an alert has been issued across the state to apprehend the suspects. The situation is being looked at thoroughly.
