Punjab: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) declared on Friday that it will run in Punjab's forthcoming assembly elections in alliance with Amarinder Singh's Punjab Lok Congress. Singh paid a visit to Gajendra Shekhawat, the BJP's Punjab in-charge and a Union minister, at his residence here on Friday. Following the meeting, the two parties announced their formal alliance. "Today, I want to make it clear that the BJP and Amarinder Singh will contest the Punjab assembly elections together, and we are working together," Shekhawat said to the reporters, with Singh at his side. Shekhawat stated that the specifics of seat-sharing will be announced at a later date. "The alliance will surely, 101 percent win the polls," Singh declared. And the fundamental factor for deciding seats will be winnability." Days after resigning as chief minister and leaving the Congress, Singh created his own political party, the Punjab Lok Congress. Earlier, the BJP had broken its coalition with Shiromani Akali Dal, a long-time ally, over farm sector policies. Shekhawat had met Singh earlier this month in Chandigarh.
