Chandigarh: Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has sharply criticized the BJP government in Haryana, attributing the rising unemployment, drug issues, and crime rates to its policies. During his ongoing Vijay Sankalp Yatra, he shared his experiences meeting locals and listening to their concerns, expressing that the BJP has jeopardized the future of the youth and the overall security of the state.
In a post on social media platform X, he stated, "Why are drugs and crime increasing in Haryana? The disease of unemployment spread by the BJP has put the roots of Haryana, the future of the youth, and the security of the state in deep danger." He recounted an interaction where local women welcomed him during the Yatra, serving homemade rotis and sharing insights into the state's complex challenges. Gandhi accused the BJP of dismantling essential systems that support employment, declaring, "Today, Haryana has the highest unemployment in India." He blamed the government's decade-long tenure for undermining various sectors that facilitate youth employment, listing several grievances:
The implementation of flawed GST and demonetization, which he claims have crippled small businesses. Disruptions in the Agniveer recruitment process, affecting young people preparing for military service. The detrimental impact of agricultural laws, which he says have diminished the resolve of farmers. Loss of support for athletes, leading to unfulfilled dreams.
The stalling of government recruitment under the 'Parivar Pehchan Patra' initiative, which has left many families without job prospects. He expressed concern over the consequences of these policies, stating, "The result of this: Youth talent getting wasted in the grip of drugs, disappointed youth taking the path of crime, and families getting destroyed by the journey of dangers."
In a promise to the people of Haryana, Gandhi pledged that a Congress government would focus on providing employment opportunities, committing to recruit 2 lakh permanent jobs and striving for a drug-free state. "I have promised the sisters of Haryana that I will stop this destruction, will protect their children—employment will come back, and every family will be happy," he asserted. Haryana is set to hold elections on Saturday, with results scheduled to be announced on October 8, making Gandhi's statements a pivotal part of the ongoing political discourse in the state.
