New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has strongly criticized the government's 'One Nation, One Election' proposal, asserting that it poses a threat to the Indian union and all its states. Gandhi took to Twitter, stating, "INDIA, that is Bharat, is a Union of States. The idea of 'one nation, one election' is an attack on the ???????? Union and all its States." This statement comes amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the 'One Nation, One Election' push, and follows Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's refusal to participate in the panel established to deliberate on the issue. The Congress party has raised concerns about the timing of the high-level committee on 'One Nation, One Election,' and it believes that the terms of reference have already predetermined its recommendations. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh also criticized the composition of the committee, suggesting that it is a clear indicator of the committee's intentions. He stated, "The High-level Committee on what is called 'One Nation One Election' is a ritualistic exercise, the timing of which is highly suspect. Its terms of reference have already determined its recommendations." Ramesh further emphasized, "The composition of the Committee is also a total giveaway, and the Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, @adhirrcinc, very rightly refused to be part of it."
