Rain fury Karnataka, Woman, daughter killed in wall collapse

BANGALORE: Amid torrential rain lashed Karnataka on Tuesday, a woman and her daughter were killed in a wall collapse in Markawada village in Uttara Kannada district.

Landslides, school building collapses, and house collapses have all been reported in the coastal and north Karnataka regions. Rukmini Vittal, age 35, and her daughter Sridevi Vittal, age 13, are listed as the deceased. When the tragedy happened, the victims were asleep. Despite the neighbours' best efforts, the victims had already passed away.

In the meantime, on Tuesday in the Dakshina Kannada district's Kaniyur near Puttur, authorities found a young person's body.  The search for another body is on. The dead youth were travelling in a car which was washed away by flood water. The body was found 250 meters away from where the car was found, police said.

People who live along the Cauvery and Krishna rivers in north and south Karnataka, respectively, have been urged to relocate because of the recent heavy rains. Before travelling to the state's rain-affected areas, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai got an update on the situation from Ministers of the Interior Araga Jnanendra, Revenue, R. Ashok, and Energy, V. Sunil Kumar.

Speaking to media after landing in Mysuru, Chief Minister Bommai said: "We have information about fatalities and house collapse incident. Agriculture loss is now being surveyed." "The loss of road connectivity caused by the heavy rains is significant. Landslides, earthquakes in the Kodagu area, and marine erosion all exist. Homes near rivers in north Karnataka have been damaged. In the state, a first phase crop loss survey has been conducted, and I will learn more about it this evening "he said.
