Her whole life was full of courage and sacrifice. She faced difficulties and adversity throughout her life, but did not lose patience and taught her' son 'Shivaji' to be devoted to social welfare. Very few people know that Jijabai was born on 12 January 1598 as the daughter of 'Lakhuji Jadhav' near Sindkhed in Buldhana district. Her mother's name was Mahalsabai and she was very young when she got married to 'Shahaji Bhosle'. It is said that when Jijabai was married to Shahaji, at that time he used to be a military commander in the army of Adil Shahi Sultan. Jijabai became the mother of eight children after her marriage, of which 6 were daughters and 2 sons. Shivaji Maharaj was included in them. Jijabai was very beautiful and she was also intelligent. But in spite of all this, her husband abandoned her after Shivaji was born. He was more fascinated with his second wife, Tukabai, because of which he left Jijabai. It is said that apart from a mother and wife, she had many other qualities. She was known as a capable warrior and administrator. She always used to inspire Shivaji by telling him stories of valour and whenever Shivaji was in trouble, Jijabai would stand for help. It was a big challenge for her to raise Shivaji without a father, which she did well and she made Shivaji a great warrior. After some time, Jijabai got the news of her second son and Shivaji's brother Sambhaji Maharaj receiving Veergati. She could not manage herself at that time. She had already received news of her husband's death. Jijabai completely broke and she could not live for long. She died on 17 June 1674.
