Rajya Sabha adjourned twice amid uproar

NEW DELHI: Following an uproar by the opposition members after being denied notices,  Rajya Sabha was adjourned twice for 15 minutes on Thursday, December 15.

\7 Opposition members had given notices to the chairman on multiple issues, but were not permitted. Reactively, the opposition members indulged in sloganeering and the House was adjourned twice time -  first from 11.12 am for 15 minutes and, and second time from 11.35 am to 11.50 am.

"There are at least three instances where rule 267 suspension of business notices have been allowed, including on Demonetisation," siad Trinamool Congress member Derek O' Brien. Priyanka Chaturvedi of the Shiv Sena and Pramod Tiwari of the Congress both insisted on being given notice, but to no effect.

Piyush Goyal, the leader of the House, said that the members have been making false accusations, and that this should be investigated. He was making reference to Sanjay Singh, the leader of the AAP, who claimed that 3000 political leaders had been searched.

In accordance with Rule 267, Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) requested a stoppage of business in the Rajya Sabha to debate "the undermining of independence of institutions like the ED, IT, CBI, EC, CVC and CIC." Raghav Chaddha of the AAP had filed a suspension notice due to alleged meddling in judge appointments.
