President Ram Nath Kovind arrived in Bangladesh on Wednesday on a three-day State visit to take part in the 50th Victory Day celebrations in Dhaka. "President Ram Nath Kovind will begin a state visit to Bangladesh on Wednesday.
The visit will take place between December 15 and 17. "This visit is in conjunction with Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid's invitation to President Kovind to represent India as a guest of honour at the 50th Victory Day celebrations in Dhaka," Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said at a press conference on Tuesday. President Ram Nath Kovind is visiting Bangladesh for the first time since the COVID-19 outbreak.
Shringla stressed that the President's visit provides an opportunity to reestablish India's ties with Dhaka, citing a shared geographical space, legacy, history, and common experience of New Delhi's support for Bangladesh during its liberation fight. "It's also an opportunity to reflect on the breadth, depth, vibrancy, and dynamism of today's ties," Shringla said.
During the visit, the President will meet with Hamid at the delegation level. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen are expected to meet with President Obama, according to a news release from the Ministry of External Affairs. Bangladesh has invited our President to be the guest of honour at this ceremony, where he will be the sole foreign dignitary attending.
