New Delhi: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) preserves moderation, wisdom, and appropriateness in the Parliamentary system, said President Ram Nath Kovind. Speaking at the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament's Centenary Celebration President said that Gandhiji believed that accounting is vital for a clean public life. He emphasised that the principle of public accounting has not altered since Kautilya's time. He also stressed "The Parliamentary Committees, in general, and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), in particular, guarantee that the Executive is accountable to the Legislature in terms of administrative matters. Parliamentary democracy would be incomplete without them "The President stated.

"It is this component of holding the executive to account on behalf of the people," he continued, "that lies at the heart of the Public Accounts Committee's functioning." "Its genuine duty is defined by this element of accountability," the President added.

He cited Mahatma Gandhi's assertion that "accounting is as important to a clean public life as cleanliness is to social life." The Public Accounts Committee, according to the President, has lived up to such elevated aspirations and expectations. "It has a commendable and excellent track record over the decades."
