Ravi Shankar Prasad lashes out at opposition, says, 'Boycott of President's address unfortunate'

New Delhi: The budget session began with the President's address. 18 opposition parties boycotted President Ram Nath Kovind's speech on the issue of farmers' agitation. The boycott done by the opposition parties has been termed as unfortunate by Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "It was unfortunate that his address was boycotted. A member of Congress came in and shouted slogans. AAP MPs tried to disrupt. This is an unhealthy tradition. ''

Ravi Shankar further said that according to the parliamentary tradition, the budget session started with the President's address. The President is the constitutional head of the country and his political opposition is beyond comprehension. Ravi Shankar Prasad further said, "Congress tried to implement these agricultural reforms during its tenure. Assuming them to be true, we implemented them. Also took many decisions for the benefit of the farmers.” Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the Congress is now opposing this law in its arrogance because there is a BJP government in the country. Taking a dig at the Congress, he said that the Congress has not yet condemned the incident on the Red Fort.

18 opposition parties of the country including Congress, while expressing solidarity with the farmers agitating against the agricultural laws, decided to boycott President Ram Nath Kovind's address. Union Minister Prahlad Joshi has termed the decision by the opposition parties to boycott the President's address in Parliament.
