Ready to take all options to protect Lebanon's oil, gas: Hezbollah

BEIRUT: Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the head of Hezbollah, has cautioned Israel against misjudging Lebanon and emphasised that the Lebanese party will take all necessary precautions to safeguard Lebanon's oil and gas.

On Ashura Day, Sayyed Nasrallah spoke to mourners in Dahiyeh, a suburb of Beirut in the south, and reaffirmed that Hezbollah is fully prepared to face all alternatives in response to Israeli threats and to send a clear message that it is ready for war.

"We are taking the struggle for Lebanon's wealth very seriously. In response to Israeli threats, we should be prepared for all eventualities "Hezbollah is ready for military action, Nasrallah made plain in a broadcast statement on Tuesday to commemorate the Shia holy day of Ashura.

He issued a warning to foes not to mess up while dealing with Lebanon's people, its "stronger than ever" resistance, or maritime borders or oil and gas issues, according to the Xinhua news agency.

Lebanese officials are attempting to resolve a maritime border issue with Israel that has gotten worse since Israel deployed a vessel to the Karish field on June 5; Israel claims the area is in its economic zone, while Lebanon claims it is in disputed waters.

Following his visits to both nations, US energy ambassador Amos Hochstein stated earlier in August that he was confident about finding a resolution to the maritime issue between Israel and Lebanon.
