Reduction of GST on some items related to Covid 'lip service': Congress

New Delhi: The Congress has hit out at the government last Saturday for continuing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on goods and equipment required to treat or prevent corona. In fact, after the very serious second wave of epidemic, the party termed the reduction in GST on some such items as showy. Meanwhile, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala has tweeted. He tweeted on Twitter, "Just as delay in justice is to deprive justice, so is the delay in relief.''

At the same time, he added, "Lakhs of people died between February and May, 2021, but the Modi government, the Finance Minister and the GST Council ignored repeated requests for reduction in GST rates. Delayed action after devastation and deaths is just a sham." Besides, his party colleague Jairam Ramesh also said, "The entire GST structure has been distorted to the extent of destruction. My party colleague and Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Badal expressed his concern at the GST Council meeting held on Saturday. Manpreet Badal, on the other hand, has also tweeted.

In a tweet, he said, "In the biggest crisis of the century, the GROUP of Ministers of the GST Council should stop acting like a emperor. Corona GST rate should be zero and don't eliminate corona exemptions in August, 2021. Apart from all this, Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra has alleged that the GST Council has seen the slow death of the only body of cooperative federalism.''
