Remembering Devi Ahilyabai Holkar on her birth anniversary: Amit Shah

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday remembered the warrior queen of the Maratha empire, Ahilyabai Holkar on her 297th birth anniversary for her service to 'Sanatan Dharma' by renovating many temples from Somnath to Kashi.

"Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar ji has made incomparable contributions to the preservation of Sanatan culture," the Home Minister said in a tweet. "She rendered invaluable service to 'Sanatan Dharma' by renovating numerous temples from Somnath to Kashi. She also set many excellent examples of women empowerment and public welfare as a 'Prajavatsal' ruler "Shah used Hindi to tweet.

On May 31, 1725, Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar was born in the village of Chaundi (modern-day Ahmednagar), Maharashtra. Today is the 297th birthday of the Queen, who is regarded as one of India's greatest female rulers.

She was well-known for her knowledge and administrative skills. Her birthday is celebrated every year on May 31st. As a prominent ruler of the Malwa kingdom, Ahilyabai Holkar spread the message of 'dharma', promoted industrialization, and built many Hindu temples and Dharamshalas across India.
