Ahilyabai had a son in 1745, while three years later she had a daughter. The boy's name was Malerao and the girl's name was Muktabai.

Khanderao was a brilliant soldier. But Khanderao died in 1754. After the death of Malhar Rao Holkar, Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar took over the task of administration. Rani Ahilyabai managed the kingdom very efficiently during her death in 1795. Devi Ahilyabai is counted as an efficient manager and she ruled the state. Goddess Ahilyabai Holkar got temples, Dharamshalas and food fields built in different regions of India. She also got the roads constructed from Calcutta to Banaras. She got the temple of Mother Annapurna built and built ghats on the banks of the river at many places. She was an exclusive devotee of Shiva and also got the Ghats of Maheshwar constructed.

She also got the Kashi Vishwanath temple constructed. Tukojirao Holkar was a great confidant of Malharrao's brothers. Malharrao always kept her with him. They were prepared for the administration. Ahilyabai Holkar appointed him as his commander and also entrusted the task of recovery to him. Tukojirao Holkar was older than Ahilyabai in age. Tukoji treated her like his mother and handled the work of the state with full dedication and truth. She had given Tukojirao the place of her son.
