New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has become the world's largest central bank in terms of the number of 'followers' on Twitter. The number of followers of the bank has crossed 10 lakh. The Reserve Bank has become the first central bank in the world to achieve this position. The RBI has also defeated the Federal Reserve of America and the European Central Bank (UCB) with 10 lakh followers on Twitter. According to the information available on the RBI's Twitter handle, its number of followers was 9.66 lakh on September 27, 2020, which has now increased to 10 lakh. RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das tweeted on Sunday, "The number of followers on the Twitter account of the Reserve Bank has reached 10 lakh today. Congratulations to all my colleagues in the Reserve Bank for this." The world's most powerful central bank, the Federal Reserve, has a follower number of just 6.67 lakh on Twitter. The number of followers of the European central bank is 5.91 lakhs. America's central bank took to Twitter in March 2009. The ECB created an account on Twitter on October 2009. The Twitter account of the 85-year-old Reserve Bank (RBI) started in January 2012. RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has a different Twitter handle, on which the number of followers is 1.35 lakh.
