NEW DELHI: Indian petrol prices have risen at a slower rate than in other nations such as the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, and France, said Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. Because of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, global crude oil prices have recently soared. Puri defended the Centre during a debate in the Lok Sabha on the fuel price hike, saying that the price of petrol has been hiked by Rs 9 during the last 12 or 13 days, while international costs have risen. He offered numbers comparing petrol prices from April 2021 to March 2022. The Minister pointed out that in the United States, petrol prices increased by 51% during this time period. Similarly, the increase in Canada was 52 percent, while it was 55 percent in Germany and the United Kingdom, 50 percent in France, 58 percent in Spain, 55 percent in Sri Lanka, and only 5% in India, he said, adding that domestic petrol prices are one-tenth of what they are elsewhere in terms of percentage growth.
