New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Indian-origin Rishi Sunak on being elected as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and said he looks forward to working together on global issues and implementing the Roadmap 2030. In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi said, "Heartiest congratulations to Rishi Sunak! As you become the UK PM, I look forward to working closely together on global issues and implementing the roadmap for 2030. Happy Diwali to the vibrant bridge of British Indians. We have transformed historical ties into modern partnerships.'' Sunak will create history by becoming the new PM of Britain. Sunak has been elected unopposed as the leader of the Conservative Party after Penny Mordant announced her withdrawal from the race on Diwali. Sunak, a 42-year-old former finance minister, received the support of more than half of the Conservative Party's 357 lawmakers, while he needed the support of at least 100 lawmakers to win. Sir Graham Brady, head of the influential Committee of Parliamentarians 1922, announced in the Parliament complex at 2 pm local time on the last day of withdrawal that he had received only one nomination, so Sunak had emerged victorious in the race to become the leader. This means that Sunak will become pm after meeting Maharaja Charles III at Buckingham Palace. Further schedule will be announced soon. He will also be the youngest British PM in modern history. The current record holder is David Cameron, who became PM at the age of 42.
