Patna: Veteran CPI leader and a four-time member of Bihar Legislative Council Kedar Nath Pandey passed away on Monday. Pandey, 79, breathed his last in the wee hours at a hospital in Gurugram where he was admitted after suffering a brain haemorrhage. Governor Phagu Chauhan, CM Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav condoled the death of Pandey, who had been representing the Saran Teachers constituency of the Upper House since 2002.

Kedar Nath Pandey was also the general secretary of the Bihar Secondary Teachers Association since 1992 and was actively associated with the Indian People's Theatre Association and Progressive Writers Association. His body will be brought here for last rites, the CPI's state unit said in a statement.

In another incident coming to light from Bihar, senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi on Monday blamed the Grand Alliance government for the outbreak of dengue and claimed that all records have been broken in the state. Modi was interacting with the media here after visiting the dengue ward of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), the state's largest government health facility. Sushil Kumar Modi said preventive steps should be taken in August itself when CM Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav were busy forming a new government.
