Congress appoints Rohan Gupta as chairperson of social media department

New Delhi: In view of the impending assembly elections, the Congress has begun to restore the organization. The party has appointed a new social media chief in view of the by-elections and assembly elections due in several states. The Congress has assigned Rohan Gupta the responsibility of the party's social media wing. This responsibility was previously with Divya Sapandana. Congress general secretary KC Venugopal gave this information on Saturday. He said that Gupta was appointed after the approval of the party's interim president Sonia Gandhi.

It may be noted that Rohan Gupta had earlier served as the social media head for the Congress during the 2017 Gujarat Assembly elections. He is the son of Congress leader Rajkumar Gupta and was currently the party's national media coordinator. Before this, Divya Spandana used to head the social media of the Congress. This year, after the results of the Lok Sabha elections, he deleted his Twitter account. After which it was being speculated that he has left the party.

However, while clarifying this, she said that the reason for this is only to distance himself from the digital world. Spandana is credited with having a large presence on the social media of the Congress party. In fact, PM Modi's use of social media in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and its success attracted other political parties to this.
