Rohit Sharma sent to hospital for X-ray after suffering blow to left thumb

DHAKA: India Versus Bangaladesh 2nd ODI -  India captain Rohit Sharma was injured while fielding in the second One-Day International (ODI) match against Bangladesh on Wednesday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur, Dhaka, and was taken to the hospital for an X-ray.

When Rohit attempted to take a catch at second slip from Anamul Haque off bowler Mohammed Siraj in the second over, he was hurt. Haque hung his bat in the hallway without using any footwork after Siraj threw the length ball outside the off-stump.

Rohit received the ball, but despite his best efforts to grab it with both hands as it dipped on him, he was unable to hang onto it. When the ball struck his thumb, he immediately left the field to receive medical attention, and Rajat Patidar was brought in as a replacement fielder.

Vice-captain and wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul has assumed leadership responsibilities in his place. When Siraj bowled the ball that came back in sharply, Haque was out the very next ball, trapped plumb lbw.

Later, Rohit had been taken to the hospital for an x-ray, according to TV commentators, and the BCCI confirmed this in a formal update shared on their Twitter account. "During the second ODI, India's captain Rohit Sharma was struck in the thumb. He was examined by the BCCI Medical Team. He recently underwent a scan." Earlier, the BCCI reported that fast bowler Kuldeep Sen, who made his international debut in the first ODI on Sunday, was forced to skip the game on Wednesday owing to back stiffness and was replaced in the starting eleven by Umran Malik.

"Following the first ODI on Sunday, Kuldeep Sen complained of back stiffness. After evaluating him, the BCCI Medical Team suggested that he take a nap. He was not a candidate for the second ODI, "the BCCI stated in a tweet.
