New Delhi: Former Indian Explosive all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who played a key role in making India the world champion in 2011, believes Shubman Gill is a strong contender to open in the 2023 ODI World Cup to be held in India. Opening batsman Shubman Gill is not a part of the Indian team in the ongoing ODI series in Bangladesh, but he was included in the team that went on the New Zealand tour.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the Blind T20 World Cup, Yuvraj Singh said, 'I believe that Shubman is performing very well and there is consistency in his performance. I think he is a strong contender to open the innings for Team India in the 2023 World Cup.' Yuvraj, who retired from all forms of cricket in the year 2019, continued to play the role of a mentor for young cricketers from his state Punjab and Gill was also one of them.
Let us tell you that Shubman had spent a lot of time with Yuvraj in the lockdown imposed in 2020 due to the Corona epidemic and along with the current captain of Punjab and all-rounder of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) Abhishek Sharma, this former all-rounder of Team India taught a lot of tricks of cricket to them. Yuvraj said, 'Shubman is a very hard-working player and focuses on all the good things. I believe he will become a legend in the next 10 years.'
