Shimla: The Rohtang Pass, located at 13,000 feet in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu area, has been closed to travellers. After recent snowfall, the government has decided not to send tourists to higher elevations. Ashutosh Garg, Deputy Commissioner of Kullu, warned that starting Monday, tourism trucks heading to Rohtang will be unable to travel beyond Kothi village. Manali is 13 kilometres away from Kothi village. According to them, the Rohtang Pass would be closed to tourists until the end of April. In the interim, only army, police, and emergency services trains will be permitted to pass via the atal tunnel. The administration has also shut down the online permission system. Following the snowfall in the area during Diwali, the number of visitors visiting Rohtang grew dramatically. Snow was accumulating in several spots on the roads leading to Rohtang as a result of the falling temperature and change in weather, according to the Border Road Organisation (BRO), and the routes should be closed to common vehicles. In October of 2020, the Atal Tunnel will reopen. Lahaul, in the Lahaul-Spiti district, is connected to Manali, in the Kullu district, through a 9.02-kilometre tunnel. The tunnel cuts the distance between Manali and Leh by 46 kilometres and saves passengers 4 to 5 hours of travel time. Tell us that it is the world's longest tunnel, located at a height of almost 10,000 feet.
