New Delhi: Senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Indresh Kumar on Sunday (October 09) targeted the Congress by reiterating the contribution of freedom fighter Veer Savarkar in liberating the country. Indresh Kumar has said that Veer Savarkar had to suffer many tortures in jail, while Congress leaders had rested in jail. Indresh Kumar has said that freedom fighter Veer Savarkar was sentenced to double life imprisonment and spent tortured time in jail, while Congress leaders spent time comfortably in jail. The RSS ideologue said, 'No one in the family of one of our leaders ever faced a jail sentence. Congress leaders did not suffer torture in jail, but the people of that family spent their time in jail comfortably. Whereas, Veer Savarkar had to face life imprisonment twice. Savarkar spent a tortuous time in jail. If you cannot respect them, then you have no right to insult anyone.' Indresh Kumar's statement came after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that Savarkar used to get stipends from the British and these are historical facts. Addressing RSS members at an event here, he also said that if Mahatma Gandhi had sent leaders like Subhash Chandra Bose or Sardar Patel instead of sending Jawaharlal Nehru to talk to Muhammad Ali Jinnah before the formation of Pakistan, the country would not have been divided.
