Saeed Jaffrey was more famous than A-listers in Hollywood, One mistake that destroyed his wife’s life

Saeed Jaffrey is one of the popular faces of 90s. He has worked in various hits Bollywood films. He has also played the role of Villain in his career. He was born in 1929 on January 8 in Malerkotla, Punjab. While he did his early studies in Aligarh, Saeed Jafri also received higher education from Aligarh Muslim University and St. George's College, Mysore

The veteran actor started his own theater company named 'Unity Theatre' in Delhi. He has also worked in various Hollywood films. He was very famous in Britain and America. He has acted in many British, American and Indian films. His identity was more in Britain and America than in Bollywood. Regarded as the best Asian-origin actor in Britain in the eighties and nineties.  Before his death he has written a heartfelt letter for his wife. He wrote that “I was influenced by the British culture so I tried to mold Mehrunima also in the same mould, but  she could not change the basic personality. She has always been an obedient wife, a good housewife and a very loving mother. When I tried to change her, she gets away from me. Gradually, Mehrunima transforms from a happy and attractive girl to an insecure woman. At the same time Saeed got attracted towards his co-star.”

He added, “ When I was 19 years old, I was married to Mehrunima. She was only 17 years old at that time. I was heavily influenced by the British culture of slave India, so I learned to wear suits and speak fluent English. Due to this, I had also started bringing this British behavior. he started distancing himself from his wife.”

Awards and Recognization

Saeed Jaffrey was awarded the Honorary Commander of the British Empire for his outstanding performance in the field of drama.  He was the first Asian actor to receive the Honorary Commander of the British Empire award. Saeed Jaffrey was the first Indian actor to tour the United States staging Shakespeare's plays. He was the first Asian actor to be nominated for a British and Canadian Academy Award. On the career front, Saeed has appeared in many films like 'Dil', 'Kishan Kanhaiya', 'Ghar Ho To Aisa', 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili', 'Gandhi', 'Masoom', 'Shatranj Ke Khiladi', 'Sagar', 'Ram Lakhan'. and "Hina" (1991).
