South Korean tech giant Samsung became number one smartphone brand in the September quarter. According to the latest Counterpoint report , Samsung recaptured the top place in India and reached its highest market share since 2018. It is expected that the Counterpoint to publish the full report for the September quarter by the end of October. Samsung has performed well in India and this revival in India also enabled Samsung to reclaim the top position in the global market in July-August. According to experts, Samsung's revival in the country can be attributed to their aggressive online channel strategy which is what allowed them to take advantage of the opportunities arising due to the anti-China sentiments. It also adopted an online-to-offline (O2O) business model and hyperlocal delivery to help their offline retail partners.The global market share of the company was 22% at the end of August while Huawei's had dropped to 16%. Apple with 12% market remained unperturbed in the third spot. Huawei's market share is expected to fall further. The smartphone industry world got affected to a great extent due to recent geopolitical events. Chinese brands in India have faced a huge backlash after the Galwan valley clash. Indian government also banned 59 Chinese apps including TikTok over security concerns.The combined market share of Chinese companies in India dropped to 72% in the June quarter from 81% in the March quarter.
