Sanjog Bhushan - The newest face of Indian electronic music scene

After dropping his track ? ?KEEP ME UP?, we talked to the mind that created the track which went viral and wrapped up a million streams within 3 days. Hailing from Delhi, 20-year-old Sanjog Bhushan is already being referred as ?the next big thing?. His unique style of music (can be called TROPICAL HOUSE) is already wrapping stream numbers which many musicians can dream about. His constant knack of delivering hits, has swiftly made his way into be called the newest face of Indian electronic music scene. With the many outlets referring him as the one of the best producers in India, we spoke to him about his journey from just a pretty face to being called as the best young producer currently.

Tell us about how you started music and what got you in it?

?so, I am myself confused how I actually got into this, it was when I was in 9th, I actually messed around in my Daw (he is referring to Fl Studio) and then it became a regular affair. From there on there was no stopping, when I hear my music from back then I laugh sometimes or shut my own ears. But that is a part of the process. I would be listening music that were originally produced by kygo or avicii is what started my curiosity.

Who hears your music before it gets heard by so many of your fans? and how do you decide that the track is now complete?

Mostly I send it to my elder brother (Trix here is talking about his elder brother Jishnu Dasgupta (bassist and vocalist) for one of the most renowned and beloved band Swarathma) and then he usually tells what is actually sounding good or if something is horrible (lol). He has been in the industry for over 10 years so ofc his music sense and knowledge are infinite times more than me; he is really helping me in my career and making sure I move in the right direction.  apart from this I send to some of my music friends and some more people like Anurag Tagat (one of India?s finest music journalists and has been supporting his music way before he got these massive hits). ?The way I actually decide that my music track is finished and ready for mastering is when I have nothing else to add and the mix sits really well?. with the added guidance of the people mentioned above, Sanjog says that is the deciding factor to his end product of his tracks.

You are now at a stage where millions of people are wanting to know what your life looks like? What is the day of a multi-million streamed producer and one of the most famous teens pan out?

I mean, it?s nothing special, way before I got some people liking my music it was pretty chilled, get up like a regular person and do whatever is needed, it has changed much within the past few months. I usually get up to 100 emails (referring to label emails or promo from various artists).  Get some tea and then back to my usual music stuff, it?s been pretty relaxed past few days since I am not keeping well. But more of less it?s the same, I don?t find too much free time to do things like my peers would usually do at this age, but I enjoy this now. I have lost many friends or people who I never wanted to lose because of this. but in the end, everything happens for a reason. the one?s who understand will stay. ?WHAT ABOUT WEEKENDS ?, so my weekends, yes, I don?t work much on those days, I watch some Netflix and chat with friends.

What/ when is your next track?

I pretty much have no clue, but what I can tell it?s called ?SUNDOWN? it will probably be late march or early April if everything goes to plan.  So, the music itself is same as I usually make, juts a faster BPM, traditionally the progressive house kind of thing.

You have just been labelled as ?one of the best producers by times of India?, how does that make you feel?

Yeah, for sure it?s something that gives me confidence in what I am doing, just shows that what I am making from my heart is being loved or being related by people around the world. A couple of years back I would have never thought of this, so yes dreams do come true in many ways.

Tell us about how your family is reacting your success now? also where did your family stand when you started music?

Ofc, they are all very proud of me and as supportive as they can be now. it did not start the way I would have wanted, but at the end everything glued like it should have.  The journey has started, I have so much to accomplish and make them ever prouder of what they are now.

We chatted with some of your friends and they said hearing your mom behind you, how is she reacting to all this sudden success and being the mother behind the most talked about music teen?

I mean I am always getting scolded at (Sanjog laughs), especially now when my health is taking toll, but that is what all mother?s do, I am just happy that I have been able to do something that makes her feel proud. I don?t think it bothers her very much, with all the fame and success I am getting, I am very homely person, I just love staying indoors and working on my music, so I am mostly always in front of her, she has seen the growth since the very start so I doubt it bothers her if that is what you meant to ask.

What about your gaming venture?

Oh yeah, she is totally hating that (lol), she rather have me do home stuff than play games all day. even my sister hates that. But I think I can do something great in terms of gaming in India, the culture isn?t there but I can see some potential being there with so many gamers like mortal, Devam Singh or some clans like mym or soul getting to it.

Did your school have any role in your success?

Not really, my school?s definition of success is totally different. The culture of music in my time did not exist. I remember one incident where I was being labelled as failure by everyone around, all those hardships my mother or myself had to face going through is finally coming to an end. it just shows how the system has to adapt to the newer times. I?m glad I am now in a position where people see my worth not just one school but a 1000x times more the population.

Sanjog?s life has been one hell of a story, we are sure that his rise currently is just a start, with strong support of family and friends, he is destined for greatness if he continues his music. The journey of Sanjog was a surreal dream. This world was about knowing the person you?d always wanted to be and setting your foot down to it, remembering the person you?d thought you were as a child and rejoicing in its living, breathing actuality. The struggles endured has been the stepping stone in his career.

We wish him every success and happiness .
