New Delhi: Former jail minister of Kejriwal government, Satyendar Jain, imprisoned in Delhi's Tihar Jail in money laundering case, has become a 'skeleton' while behind bars. He has lost 35 kilos. While seeking bail for Satyendar Jain from the Supreme Court, his lawyer has given these arguments. Hearing his petition on Thursday (May 18), a bench of Justice AS Bopanna and Justice Hima Kohli issued a notice to the Central Investigation Agency Enforcement Directorate (ED) and summoned the reply. Congress Rajya Sabha MP and advocate Abhishek Singhvi appeared in the apex court on behalf of Jain. Citing serious health problems, he asked the court for exemption from hearing in the vacation bench. Singhvi said, 'That person has become a skeleton while in jail. He has lost 35 kg in jail. He is suffering from many diseases. Jain's health is continuously deteriorating and his case is at number 416 in the waiting list.' On this, the Supreme Court has given relief to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendar Jain and allowed him to appeal in the vacation bench. At the same time, on behalf of ED, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju argued in the court. He said, 'We oppose this petition.' At present, the court has not fixed any date for the next hearing. Satyendar Jain is imprisoned in Tihar Jail since May 2022. He approached the Supreme Court after the Delhi High Court rejected his bail plea on 6 April 2023. The High Court had refused to grant bail to Jain in the money laundering case while upholding the decision of the lower court. The court had said that Satyendar Jain is an influential person. He can tamper with the evidence after coming out of jail. Therefore the bail application is dismissed. To avoid ED's questions, Jain has said that his memory has gone, and he does not remember anything. This is also a reason, which is becoming an obstacle in his bail. On the other hand, a very funny thing is that, outside, the Congress is making many allegations against the Kejriwal government and the AAP, including the liquor scam, while in the court itself, the Rajya Sabha MPs of the Congress, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, are fighting the case of Satyendar Jain.
