Gorakhpur: On the second Monday of the Sawan month, Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, sought blessings at the Gorakhnath temple in Gorakhpur. Simultaneously, devotees flocked to Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Haridwar, among other places, to partake in rituals and offer prayers on the auspicious occasion of Somvati Amavasya, which falls within the month of Sawan. A devotee, deeply devoted to Lord Shiva, who was among the gathering to catch a glimpse of Baba Vishwanath in Varanasi, expressed that Mondays hold great significance as they are considered to be Lord Shiva's day, and seeking Baba's blessings on this day is incredibly auspicious. People travel to the Ganga River, where they bathe and collect its holy water to offer to Baba Vishwanath. Furthermore, he stated that the crowd multiplies manifold during the month of Shravan, and devotees diligently perform religious rituals throughout this period. Meanwhile, on the occasion of Somvati Amavasya, devotees were spotted taking a purifying dip at Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. In Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, devotees offered prayers at the Baba Bhootnath Temple, while in Deoghar, Jharkhand, throngs of devotees gathered at the Baba Baidyanath Temple to offer their prayers. According to the scriptures, chanting, bathing, making donations, and worshipping hold special significance on the day of Somvati Amavasya. It is believed that bathing in the holy rivers and making charitable contributions on this day bestow good fortune. Moreover, married women observe a fast on this day for the longevity of their husbands, and offerings are made to ancestors in honor of Somvati Amavasya.
