New Delhi: The Supreme Court has justified reservation for OBC category in NEET examination. The Supreme Court said that 27% OBC reservation in PG and UG All India quota will be constitutionally valid. It also said that the Centre does not need to seek the approval of this court before making reservation. The Centre's decision to provide OBC reservation in NEET is correct. The Special Court of Justices D Y Chandrachud and AS Bopanna in the Supreme Court upheld the Centre's decision to introduce 27 per cent OBC reservation in AIQ UG and PG medical seats. At the same time, the Supreme Court ruled that reservation can be given along with merit, which is not contradictory. At the same time, the Supreme Court said, reservation and merit are not contrary to each other, reservation is essential for social justice. The court recently approved counselling for the current session, retaining the scale of 8 lakh annual income in the EWS category. After clarifying his stand on the EWS quota, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had sought an early hearing of the case from the Chief Justice on behalf of the Central Government. NEET PG counselling for the same AIQ seats is underway. While registration and filling up of options against phase 1 is over, NEET pg counselling round 1 result is yet to be declared, is scheduled to be announced on January 22. Neet PG exam was held on September 11, 2021. Before that, the exam program was changed twice in January and April. Resident doctors from all medical colleges across the country had demonstrated last month demanding early counselling process and boycotted work. In the same NEET PG 2021 counselling, SC will have 15 per cent seats, 7.5 per cent for ST, 27 per cent for OBC OBC (NCL), 10 per cent reservation for EWS, 5 per cent horizontal reservation for divyang category. The difference is that earlier OBC and EWS reservations were only in central universities, but this time they are also being implemented in state seats.
