The Delhi Police on March 25 arrested a Muslim person named Mohammed Azhar for sexually assaulting a minor girl. The accused is said to be the driver of a school van. The accused has been charged under section 376 of IPC and section 6 of the POCSO Act for assaulting a 6-year-old school-going girl. DCP South East Rajesh Deo said that Shaheen Bagh Police Station in Delhi has received a case registration and has verified the identify of the accused. In accordance with Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code, raping a woman carries a sentence of at least ten years in prison and up to life in prison. In these situations, the defendant facing charges under the IPC is also subject to a fine. However, aggravated penetrative sexual assault is covered in section 6 of the 2012 Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The penalty for breaking the legislation is strict imprisonment for a time that must not be less than twenty years, but which may also include life in prison. This is not Delhi's first instance of a sexual assault being reported. On April 24, a 58-year-old man named Mohd Taqi Ahmed was detained for allegedly sexually abusing a little girl in his home in the Ghazipur neighbourhood of east Delhi. The girl, a Class 6 student at a government school, was reportedly approached by Ahmed on April 21 as she was leaving her aunt's home and was dragged to his house where he allegedly undressed her and sexually assaulted her violently. At that time, a complaint had been filed in accordance with Sections 34 and 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (unnatural sex), as well as the pertinent sections of the Prevention of Child Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Two of the accused were also apprehended by the police.
