Kurt Schrader fielded two challengers to earn a Democratic primary election for Oregon's 5th congressional district for the seventh straight cycle. According to reports, Shredder took 69% of the vote and took a 46-point lead over Mark Gamba, the mayor of Milwaukee. Schrader is currently serving his sixth term as the representative of Oregon's Fifth District. He initially entered public service as a member of the Canby Planning Commission for 16 years. He won election to the Oregon House of Representatives in 1996 and served in four consecutive terms before being elected to the state Senate in 2002. He served as a state senator for six years until 2008 when he won election to Congress. In third place, local bar owner Blair Reynolds secured 6.7% of the Democratic primary vote. According to information received, Amy Ryan defeated three opponents to earn 53% of Republican voters. According to early returns, he won over Shane Dinkle, who earned 22% of the vote, Joey Nations with 14% and Angela Roman with 8.2%. Ryan Cortner is a former Keyser City Councilwoman and community activist who is involved in many organizations within the Salem-Keyser community. He currently serves on the advisory board for the Salem-Keyser Volcano minor league baseball club.
