E-tickets will be expensive from September 1, charges on these categories of tickets will increase

New Delhi: Railway journey is going to be expensive now. Indian Railways has decided to reinstate the service charges from September 1. According to the order issued by IRCTC on 30 August, IRCTC will now charge a service fee of Rs 15 on non-air-conditioned category e-tickets and Rs 30 on all air-conditioned e-tickets including first class.

Goods and services tax will be different from this. Three years ago, the BJP-led Modi government withdrew the service fee to promote digital payments. Earlier IRCTC used to charge a service fee of Rs 20 on non-air-conditioned category e-tickets and Rs 40 on all air-conditioned category e-tickets.

Earlier this month, the Railway Board approved the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to collect service charges from passengers on online tickets. IRCTC also keeps making timely announcements for the convenience of passengers. In the same year, the Indian Railways had decided to show the reserved charts online. With this help, the user can know the status of the seat before booking a ticket in a train.
