Sharad Pawar holds party meet amid Maharashtra political crisis

Mumbai: Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), held a party meeting in Mumbai on Thursday amid political upheaval inside the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, which is currently in power in Maharashtra.

The meeting is being held at NCP chief Sharad Pawar's residence. At the meeting, those present are Sunil Tatkare, state home minister Dilip Walse Patil, ministers Jayant Patil and Jitendra Awhad, and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar. At the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati, Assam, Eknath Shinde is joined by a total of 42 MLAs from Maharashtra. This includes eight Independent MLAs and 34 Shiv Sena MLAs, the source said.

Notably, on Thursday morning in Guwahati, seven more MLAs joined the breakaway group of MLAs led by Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, further escalating the political unrest within the Maha Vikas Aghadi administration in Maharashtra. As other MLAs were running for office, they arrived at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati. Shinde was joined in Guwahati last night by four other MLAs.

Moreover, a resolution signed by 34 MLAs and passed by the Shiv Sena Legislative Party declaring that rebel leader Eknath Shinde remains in charge has been delivered to the state's governor, Bhagat Singh Koshyari.
