Islamabad: Following the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf resounding victory in the Punjab by-elections on Sunday under the leadership of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, the party's secretary general Asad Umar predicted that Prime Minsiter Shehbaz Sharif would be reduced to the role of "prime minister of Islamabad" upon the ouster of Hamza Shehbaz as the current Punjab CM on July 22.
The by-elections for 20 seats in the Punjab Assembly were a resounding victory for Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI). The PTI-candidates won provincial assembly seats in Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sahiwal, and Khushab, and the party gained a resounding majority in 15 other constituencies around the province. After PTI's victory, Asad Umar, the party's secretary general, pushed Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, to hold early elections, according to reports.
Notably, Hamza Shehbaz of the PML-N is the present Chief Minister of Punjab. The PML-defeat N's has sparked a number of responses from the PTI's adversary.
Parvez Elahi, the head of the PML-Q, will take office as the chief minister of Punjab on July 22, according to Umar.
