New Delhi: On Sunday, former Pakistani cricketer Danish Kaneria engaged in a Twitter exchange with 'journalist' Arfa Khanum Sherwani and suggested that she should migrate to Pakistan if she is ashamed of her Indian identity. Kaneria didn't mince his words and even offered to have her sponsored for the trip to Pakistan. Kaneria, the second Hindu to play for the Pakistan cricket team, responded to Arfa Khanum Sherwani, who is a Senior Editor at the leftist news outlet 'The Wire.' His tweet came in the aftermath of Sherwani's criticism of Indian cricket fans for what she perceived as displays of majoritarianism during the ongoing 2023 Cricket World Cup. Sherwani expressed her disappointment in a tweet, stating, "Deplorable behavior of many cricket fans during World Cup matches makes me feel embarrassed & ashamed as an Indian." She further criticized what she viewed as a divisive approach to sports, claiming that sports should unite people rather than divide them. This isn't the first time Danish Kaneria has been involved in such exchanges. In a previous incident in September, he faced criticism from pro-Congress individuals after extending birthday wishes to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Kaneria responded by emphasizing the unity of people across different regions of India and the shared heritage they have. He noted that it might be challenging for some to comprehend the values of Bharat and Sanatan Dharma, using terms like 'piddis' and 'pappu' to refer to critics.
