Ayodhya case: Shia Board says ready to give disputed land to Hindus

New Delhi: The Shia Wakf Board said that the disputed land in Ayodhya should be given to Hindus for the construction of the Ram temple. The Board on Friday staked claim over one-third share of the disputed land in Ayodhya, contending that the September 30, 2010 order of Allahabad High Court on a three-way division had only said that the share be given to Muslims, and not specifically to Sunnis. We also claim there and we want to give it to the Hindus. This is originally ours and we want to give that part to the Hindus.

The Shia Wakf Board has argued in the Sarakch court that the last Mutavali caretaker was a Shia and we do not consider ours and we want to give it to the Hindus. Earlier, at a hearing in the apex court, the Hindu Mahasabha had told the court that birthplace of Ram in Ayodhya where Hindus have been worshipping since the beginning. After the constitution comes into force, the land should be given to the Hindus as Section 13 of the Constitution empowers them to continue customs and traditions.

Harishankar Jain told the court that the place was in the possession of Hindus from the beginning, why should our rights be limited even after independence? From 1528 to 1585, Muslims had no claim to this place anywhere and ever. Harishankar Jain said that Martin took the research forward of Buchanan and cited the location in 1838. In that book, Hindu poojas were performed. No mosque was mentioned then.
