Shibu Soren's Daughter Anjani to Contest Lok Sabha Elections Again

Bhuvneshwar: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren's daughter, Anjani, is once again entering the fray in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has fielded her as their candidate from the Mayurbhanj constituency in Odisha.

This isn't Anjani's first foray into politics; she contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the same Mayurbhanj seat. Despite securing 1,35,552 votes, she finished third, with the BJP's Bishweshwar Tudu emerging victorious. Now, the JMM has once again placed their bets on Anjani for Mayurbhanj. This time, she will be up against the BJP's Naba Charan Manjhi and the BJD's Sudam Marandi.

JMM holds a significant presence in Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh districts of Odisha, owing to their proximity to Jharkhand. Sudam Marandi previously won the 2004 Lok Sabha elections from Mayurbhanj on a JMM ticket. However, the party's influence has waned since then. In the 2014 elections, the JMM candidate secured less than 17 percent of the votes, placing third. The BJP emerged victorious in 2019, but this time, they have replaced their sitting MP Bishweshwar Tudu with Naba Charan Majhi.

As the Lok Sabha elections kick off, the first phase of voting is scheduled for April 19, followed by subsequent phases on April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1. The results are set to be announced on June 4.
