HYDERABAD: A class 10 girl was reportedly gang-raped and murdered in Tirumalagiri village in Telangana's Mahabubnagar district, after which villagers staged a violent protest on Saturday. The sixteen-year-old girl, who was alone in her house on Friday night, was seen hanging on Saturday morning. The girl's relatives alleged that 3 youth barged into the house, sexually molested and killed and hanged the body to make it look like a suicide. The rally was organised by the villagers to demand justice for the victim. They broke into the home of a young person believed to have participated in the crime and set fire to a car and a bike. The victim's body was taken by the police to a government hospital for an autopsy. The police have filed a case and are conducting a thorough investigation. The victim was alone when the crime took place since her parents had left for the day to go to work. Her family claims that she spoke to her father over the phone late on Friday night, but when they got home the next morning, she had already died. A family member of the victim mentioned that she had complained about harassment by one of the suspects in the past. Local MLA Lakshma Reddy visited the village and promised that strict action will be taken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. He also assured financial help for the family.
