Shooting at Washington grocery store kills one

Authorities are looking for a man who shot and killed one person and injured another at a grocery store in Washington state on Monday.

A Caucasian man with a firearm was the suspect in the shooting at a Fred Meyer supermarket in Richland, police said. After the 11:04 a.m. shooting, he is thought to have departed the business on foot or in a car, according to Richland police Commander Chris Lee. The suspect was wearing a plaid shirt with a dark-coloured down jacket, a black gaiter or scarf pulled over his nose, light-coloured jeans, and sports shoes, according to photos from shop surveillance footage obtained by the Tri-City Herald.

Officers searched aisle by aisle for the gunman as employees and customers were taken out of the shop to a parking lot. Police and sheriff's officers were sent from all around the Tri-Cities area in Eastern Washington, and nearby schools were put on lockdown.

Richland is located around 200 miles southeast of Seattle.
