The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has raised queries over the late-night cremation of the Hathras gang-rape victim. Sources told that in its report of the Hathras case, the 3-member team has questioned the arrangements made for the cremation of the girl. The Special Investigation Team, formed by the UP government submitted its report on the gang-rape of a 19-year-old Dalit girl on Monday. As per sources, further action might be taken against the cops involved in the late-night cremation of the girl which was conducted without the permission of her family. The 3-member team submitted a report after two extensions. The team is headed by UP Home Secretary Bhagwan Swaroop and comprises DIG Chandraprakash as well as IPS officer Poonam. The SIT was first asked to submit its report on October 7 but two extensions were granted to it by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath The developments pertain to the gang-rape and death of a 19-year-old girl in Hathras. The Dalit girl was allegedly gang-raped on September 14 inside a field by four upper-caste men and was left to die. The girl was shifted to the Safdarjung Hospital after initial treatment was administered to her in UP. The incident triggered protests across the country and people targeted the state government over the issue of women's safety. Amid massive outrage, the government formed an SIT to investigate the case. Later, the reins of the probe were handed over to the Central Bureau for Investigation (CBI).
