A new regulation suggests that all passenger cars in India be required to carry at least six airbags. Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highway, stated that the automaker will now be required to follow this regulation beginning in October 2023 rather than October 2022. Gadkari announced in a tweet that the rule will now be implemented next October rather than this October. Additionally, he stated that the decision was made to postpone the implementation of this rule while keeping an eye on the continuous supply chain disruption the automakers have been experiencing as a result of the epidemic. “Considering the global supply chain constraints being faced by the auto industry and its impact on the macroeconomic scenario, it has been decided to implement the proposal mandating a minimum of 6 Airbags in Passenger Cars (M-1 Category) w.e.f 01st October 2023," the tweet continues. The minister added that, regardless of price or variety, the safety of every passenger in a moving vehicle is of utmost importance.
