Srinagar: Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, currently on a private sojourn in Kashmir, ventured to the renowned floating gardens on Dal Lake on Sunday. Officials shared that she embarked on a shikara ride to these gardens at dawn, experiencing their unique beauty. Her son, Rahul Gandhi, who recently concluded an eight-day trip to Ladakh, had also visited the floating gardens on the preceding day. Sonia Gandhi proceeded to explore the Nishat and Shalimar Mughal Gardens along the Dal Lake's shores. Upon her arrival at the airport on Saturday afternoon, Sonia was greeted by prominent members of her party. These included Congress Central Working Committee members and the President of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, Vikar Rasool Wani. Sonia promptly inaugurated her visit by enjoying a boat ride on Nigeen Lake as recounted by a senior Congress leader. Rahul Gandhi, who spent the past week in the Union Territory of Ladakh, arrived in Srinagar on Friday. He had addressed a public rally in Kargil earlier on the same day. The party insider mentioned that Rahul's sister, Priyanka Gandhi, alongside her husband Robert Vadra, is also likely to join them in Kashmir. The family is anticipated to explore Gulmarg on Sunday, albeit with no political engagements scheduled for the duration of their visit.
