New Delhi: Following the humiliating defeat in the assembly elections, leaders of the disgruntled G-23 group of the Congress met on Wednesday to brainstorm on the party's current situation and the strategy ahead. Meanwhile, congress interim president Sonia Gandhi is said to have spoken to the party's veteran leader Ghulam Nabi Azad as the first of the G-23 leaders. Sources said that a meeting is going to be held between Sonia and some leaders. The G-23 leaders said the "only way" for the party was to "adopt a model of collective and inclusive leadership and decision-making" at all levels. Some of the G-23 leaders have held a meeting at Ghulam Nabi Azad's residence over dinner on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by former Union Ministers Kapil Sibbal, Anand Sharma, Manish Tewari, Shashi Tharoor and several other leaders. There is talk of three more new names being added, including veteran leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, former CM Amarinder Singh's wife Preneet Kaur and Gujarat leader Shankersinh Vaghela. Vaghela had left the Congress in 2017 and joined the NCP in 2019, but he also left the NCP last year. It is being told that he wants to return to Congress.
