South Korean Actress Yoo Jo Eun Commits Suicide

Trigger Warning: Mentions of Suicide

Actress Yoo Jo Eun passed away at the age of 27 this Monday. On August 29, the actress’s elder brother wrote on his Instagram account,  “Jo Eun left us on August 29, 2022, in a place where she can rest comfortably.” Following this Yoo’s family also released a note written by the actress shortly before her death out of respect for the deceased’s wishes.

Her elder brother wrote on her Instagram on Monday (Aug 29) morning that she committed suicide that day and that her funeral will be held on Wednesday (Aug 31).

“I so wanted to be an actress” reads part of Yoo’s note. “Playing was part of me and part of me too. But live [en tant qu’actrice] It was not easy. I don’t want to do anything else, and that made me very desperate. Having a dream is a blessing, but I also have a curse.”  the note said.

“You may feel empty without me, but please stay strong,” did she say.

Yoo Joo Eun confirmed that she was “very calm” and “not at all sad,” adding that she was satisfied with the life she lived.

“Please don’t blame anyone and move on.”

In the note, Yoo apologised to her grandmother, parents and brother for "leaving first".

“I’m sorry to leave before anyone else. Especially my mum, dad, grandmother and brother. My mind is screaming I don’t want to live anymore. You may feel empty without me, but please keep your strength. I’ll watch you, don’t cry, it’s not good for your health.”

“I’m not sad at all. In fact, I am very calm. Maybe because I’ve been thinking about it for a long time.

I have lived a happy life that I do not deserve. I’m very happy. it's enough. So please don’t blame anyone and move on.

I’m not dead. So please live a good life. I hope to see a lot of people at my funeral so everyone can see if anyone is going through something. I wanted to be an actress so badly. The acting was a part of me and me as a whole. but live [en tant qu’actrice] It was not easy. I don’t want to do anything else, and that made me very desperate. Having a dream is a blessing, but I also have a curse.

I am sure that God will not send me to Hell because He loves me. He will know how to listen to me and take care of me. So don’t worry about everyone.

To my dear family, friends and loved ones. Thank you for your love for me and your love for me. It was my strength and my laugh, too. I think I’ve lived a successful life because I keep unforgettable memories until the end. Thanks for your understanding and support for me. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more expressive. But I hope you understand.

To you who knew me, especially the teachers, I thank you very much and I respect you. Thank you for teaching me many things about life.

Mom, Dad, I love you. Please do not cry. I beg you.”
